I was former deputy headteacher at St. Aloysius School from 2003 – retiring in 2018 and I became a school governor to help support during and post COVID 2020. It is enriching to continue learning and contributing to this wonderful primary school. I had been deputy chair during period of appointing new head and deputy in 2022.
I had lead in Mathematics and RE whilst teaching at the school. I had taught in Year 6 for 10 years, which was very rewarding. I had a good relationship with Brookes University and luck to welcome many students on their journeys into teaching. Several had joined the staff as a result of their positive experiences. During my temporary return I was delighted to work in Year 1, early Years and the Acorn Nursery – staff always encouraging and supportive – living the Gospel values.
I have always valued the support from The Oratory community and within the school's staff – always feeling valued in my different roles.

I am passionate about delivering great outcomes for our children and helping to build a strong community spirit at our school. I have a 10 year old daughter who attends our school and I've been closely involved with our school for 6 years; firstly as Chair of the PTA and now as a Foundation Governor. It's been a busy year for our school with inspections and leadership recruitment but we now have an amazing school leadership team to drive positive change.

Biography
I am the Parish Priest of St Aloysius parish, and Provost (Superior) of the Oratory. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I joined the Oxford Oratory in 2007, and was ordained priest in 2011.
As Parish Priest, I became a school governor to continue the involvement of the Oratory Fathers in supporting the Catholic life and ethos of our wonderful St Aloysius primary school, and helping to maintain the school as an important part of our parish and Oratory family.
As a Governor I provide a link between our school and the parish, and celebrate the sacraments and special moments of prayer and Catholic life with the school community. To help the pupils and teachers to “be ambitious for the higher gifts”, and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus - while respecting the rich diversity of the Church and our wider society.

Biography
My husband Alex and I have five children: three of them have already passed through St Aloysius, and the two youngest are currently at school here, in Year 1 and Year 3. I joined the school's Governing Board as a Foundation Governor in 2014. In my day job I am a Latin, Classical Civilisation and ancient Greek teacher, and Head of the Humanities Faculty at d'Overbroeck's Oxford.
What inspired you to became a governor and do you hope to achieve
I was asked to become a Foundation Governor by the Diocese to help uphold the Catholic ethos of the school and as a practising Catholic and a mother, I was delighted to accept. For me, education of children in the Faith is one of the most important tasks of all. As a teacher, I have always been very keen to help the school provide a warm and nurturing learning environment, to teach all children as well as possible and to achieve the highest academic standards. Since parents are the first educators of their children, I am also keen to ensure that the school is a good partner and supporter of parents as they fulfil this most important vocation.
What are your areas special interest as a governor
I visit St Aloysius regularly to discuss the curriculum and Literacy in particular; I am currently the link governor for Literacy. In the past I have also been very involved in the PSHE and Relationships curriculum in the school.
